Downloading Mycosm Studio

The download was blocked several times.

I had to go to Internet Explorer and follow these instructions:

To stop the information bar from blocking file and software downloads
Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the Security tab, and then click Custom level.

To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the Downloads section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.

Click OK, click Yes to confirm that you want to make the change, and then click OK again.

  • I know that tastes vary widely when it comes to browsers, but you might want to consider using Google Chrome, at least for downloads. It's clean when it comes to downloading, and I've come across a few other areas that IE handles poorly in comparison to Chrome. I've also used Opera in the past, which (I seem to recall) also seems to work better than IE in this department. Others may have other opinions, but considering how often we use our browsers, shopping around for a good one (and there are a quite a few) is definitely worth the effort.

  • Thank you, Bob. I have followed your instructions on IE and have downloaded MyCosm Studio in less than 20 minutes. Installation was a breeze and the samples are stunning!
  • To mtroni, just a quick note on the samples. With the Moon sample, you can press the 'Play' button to run the environment's Python scripts and experience the environment in the same way that someone running it in Mycosm Player would (not sure if you've discovered this already). This will put you inside the space suit and allow you to bound around on the surface in simulated 1/6th gravity (there's even an Easter egg hidden there somewhere if you can find it). Check out the manual for more information on the samples. Hope you enjoy them!

And quods, re downloading in IE, we've now made a slight amendment to our web site to streamline the download sequence in IE. Hopefully, that will improve things a bit for IE users.

  • Some users had experienced problems with the security settings in IE preventing the download from starting. This has been fixed as Jeff mentioned.

If you used the temporary workaround suggested by @quods and changed your security settings in IE to get the download to work, don't forget to change them back to what they were originally.

  • I used FireFox 4.01 and it works well every time! Walls.
